Suffering From Plantar Fasciitis?

Sometimes heel pain can irritate your feet and make it hard to function, but often, it tends to go away after resting. When heel pain is lasting, it could be a sign of something more serious that may affect your ability to feel comfortable on a daily basis. Dr. Pamela Tola at Tola Foot and Ankle Center in Hamilton, NJ, can help you understand if you’re dealing with plantar fasciitis and how you can treat and manage your pain.

Dealing with Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is an overuse injury that can be caused by increased physical activity, wearing worn-out or very flexible shoes, prolonged walking and standing on hard surfaces, and your foot structure. Your feet may feel stiff and sore, especially after waking up or standing after sitting for a prolonged period of time after being on your feet.

Dr. Tola will evaluate your foot and work together with you to create a treatment plan that will include shoe recommendations, strapping the arch, and stretching exercises to reduce pain from plantar fasciitis. These exercises will be designed to stretch and strengthen the foot and alleviate any tightness you may feel. It’s important to perform these exercises daily to help build up any weak muscles.

You should also be sure to wear shoes that properly fit and provide the support that you need. This could include wearing orthotics that are designed to support specific areas of the feet that aren’t getting the support they need. In severe cases, you may need a night splint, physical therapy, or a steroid injection.

Generally, the longer the symptoms persist and the more severe the pain, the longer the recovery.  Don’t live with untreated plantar fasciitis.
